Despite not making it to the finals of American Idol season 22, Emmy Russell left an indelible mark on the grand finale. With the unwavering support of Wynonna Judd, she showcased her talent and passion, culminating in a heartfelt performance of Loretta Lynn’s “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” This was Russell’s second time performing her late grandmother’s classic on the show, a testament to her dedication and love for music.

For both Emmy Russell and Wynonna Judd, the opportunity to honor their late legend was not just a performance but a profoundly emotional and significant moment that underscored their shared love and respect for Loretta Lynn.

During the red carpet interview, Judd told ET, “I did, and I love Loretta. She gave me the shirt off her back, literally, and she was the first woman who hugged me in country music.”

Judd spoke about Russell’s efforts to establish herself as a successful singer. “At some point in your life, you find yourself talking to someone in the family that’s carrying on what their ancestors started, and that’s what she’s doing,

Russell, who was eliminated from the show during Disney Night on May 12th after making the top five, has been open about the pressures of following in the footsteps of her legendary grandmother.“I’m just really feeling grateful. I didn’t make Top 3, but … that was God’s plan,” Russell told her fans on Instagram. “That was funny because before I got eliminated, I think God told me, he was like, ‘Emmy, you’re not gonna be chosen by America, but I chose you."”

Abi Carter emerged as the winner of Season 22 of American Idol after securing the majority of the popular vote.
