Paramount+ has announced the launch of a new docuseries called CHOPPER COPS, which will debut on June 18. The show will take viewers into the cockpit of an elite Florida police team of helicopter pilots as they combat crime from the skies.
The series will focus on the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, which covers a 1,600-square-mile area north of Disney World. Despite its proximity to the famous theme park, its patrol area is no fantasy, with over 7,000 felonies occurring annually. Due to the extensive jurisdiction, ground units need help to monitor everything.
CHOPPER COPS will showcase the department’s secret weapon: state-of-the-art helicopters crewed by elite police pilots known as Air One. These “chopper cops” operate 24/7, with high-tech infrared cameras and augmented-reality mapping capabilities, allowing them to see in the dark and locate suspects. They provide crucial, real-time information to the ground units and guide the SWAT team’s operations.
The series will feature heart-pounding stories captured through in-chopper cameras, radio transmissions, and gripping first-person interviews with law enforcement. It will also include high-octane footage of the team’s response to an officer being shot and the subsequent efforts to apprehend the suspect.
Sheriff Billy Woods emphasized the importance of the chopper cops, stating, “To us, failure is never an option.” See It Now Studios and V1 Productions produce the series led by a team of executive producers.
